In the last week of April I was able to attend the Spring Shoot-a-thon hosted by Crystal Belcher and Angie McPherson and was held at the Historic Jasmine Plantation! It was such a beautiful event and I, of course, feel like I learned soon much and just loved the experience and met lots of talented ladies!! Here is an overload of photos from the beautiful spring wedding theme, which features two gorgeous couples. :) Enjoy!
About a week ago I attended my very first workshop! What an exciting experience!! So many firsts for me, one being my first time going across the country to California. 1 and a half being...I haven't been on a plane in 10 years lol and it was still only my second time.
The workshop was an all day-one day event on October 26th held by an amazing photographer and businesswoman, Danielle Poff based out of Livermore, California! (www.daniellepoff.com ; @daniellepoff). There was sooooooo much information to give that I almost felt overwhelmed! (In a good way, of course). I learned things I didn't even know to ask about lol. She covered everything from equipment, to marketing, to networking, to TAXES!, to editing your work, to contracts, to posing... I was in complete awe of all of this knowledge she was handing over to us. The best part about it, is she didn't make it scary. She delivered it in a way that didn't make me want to curl into a ball in the corner, she made me feel like "I CAN DO THIS!" and "I WILL DO THIS!".
After all of that, we still weren't done and only took a break to eat some of the best taco's I have ever had (delivered by her adorable mom!)! lol We used this time to just have conversations with everyone, "What do you do besides photography?", "Where are you from?"...just getting to know all of these girls and seeing where they started and where they're going was definitely inspiring.
Once we finished lunch, we finished lunch, we went back inside and talked more. (I'm not giving too much details because I really think it is worth to experience it yourself!!) At some point we even moved into her office (where she had a little helper) to show us a few quick tips for Lightroom! Definitely life changing for me because I always found ways to avoid Lightroom lol!
Around midday we moved to the styled shoot (what I was most excited/nervous about)! It was set up beeeaaautifullyy! I had no idea what to expect, and needless to say it was everything!
The shoot was for a couple who was getting married soon and brave enough to have about 10 eager students take over their personal space! lol They were so awesome and seemed like naturals, which was probably contributed to by the fact that they were so in love!! We took pictures of the couple in one setting, details of the table setting (which was beautifully crafted), details of the invitation materials (see above second picture), moved them to another setting (which included delicious looking desserts lol), and then ended in the adjoining field just in time for the sun to set.
What made the styled shoot so amazing was the fact that after learning so much the first part of the day, we literally got to put everything to test while our teacher was still with us! I observed how she moved, how others moved, interactions with the clients, *shows Danielle picture* "Is it supposed to look like this??" lol.
This being my first workshop, I have to say it undeniably set my standards high. Even after a week, I'm still running on this workshop high! lol I'm putting all of this new awareness to work and advancing myself and my business! I just want to thank my friend, Tiffany, for telling me about it because I would have never known lol! Thanks to Danielle for opening her home and her mind for us to pick and I'm so appreciative because it has made a monumental impact. Thanks for the other girls who were also able to also be there! I love learning, and what's better than learning about something that you love.
